Review

Visual Connections’ first ever event in Canada was held at the prestigious Spoke Club in downtown Toronto on Thursday, May 16th. The Spoke Club’s members are “individuals with an interest in media, entertainment and the arts” (the club is affiliated to the Norwood in New York City and the Groucho in London, England), so this was a perfect venue for our event.

The day started with a Q&A session on Know your copyright and clearances!, chaired by Elizabeth Klinck. The exhibit floor offered a diverse line-up of image and footage agencies from Canada, the US, UK and Sweden.

Registrants for the event were from the following market sectors:

A few other notable stats about the attendees:

  • 98% would come again.
  • 94% found the Q&A Session useful.
  • 61% work with footage regularly, and a further 26% occasionally. In other words, almost all buyers are involved with footage nowadays.
  • 83% are interested in search services.

Q&A Session
The Q&A was great - a super panel with a lively and valuable discussion. The afternoon exceeded my expectations, with the chance to meet many of the suppliers I have worked with before, along with the chance to learn about other suppliers that I'd not previously heard of. The food was lovely too!
