History is our specialty, from ancient to modern times, all subjects and countries. North Wind is best known for scenes of daily life of ordinary people in times past. Particularly good collections include exploration, native peoples, New World settlement, science and invention, agriculture, transportation, world commerce and trade, and portraits. You'll also find extensive current photography of historic sites and natural history such as native animals and plants.

Our hand-coloring allows us to offer fresh, new color images in any subject. You may now view images in motion - both animation and video have been added to our site!

North Wind stocks about a million pictures - antique woodcuts and engravings, photography, animation, and video - all related to history in the broadest definition. The agency is operated by an historian who can answer your questions about the subject matter or about our pictures and their sources.

Northwindpictures.com features an image database that anyone may search at no charge. If you register on our site, you can create lightboxes or download low-res images for comps. You can send us a want list or order an image online or via phone, fax, or email.

All image and footage high-res orders are downloadable from our website.

All our pictures are not online yet, so please call or email if you don't find what you want. We don't charge a research fee, and we'll meet any deadline. We are scanning and uploading more pictures as fast as we can, but our collection is large!
